Paavo Alku received his M.Sc., Lic.Tech., and Dr.Sc.(Tech) degrees from Helsinki University of Technology, Espoo, Finland, in 1986, 1988, and 1992, respectively. He was an assistant professor at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand, in 1993, and an assistant professor and professor at the University of Turku, Finland, from 1994 to 1999. He is currently a professor of speech communication technology at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland. He has published around 250 peer-reviewed journal articles and around 220 peer-reviewed conference papers. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. He served as an Academy Professor assigned by the Academy of Finland in 2015-2019. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of ISCA.
